The foothills of the Appalachian Mountains are steeped in the origins of bluegrass and country music. I grew up listening to my ancestors play bluegrass and gospel as a family band. My grandpa played mandolin in this band of brothers and sisters. Each brother from his large family played an instrument and the sisters sang - each one with no formal training, only from their experiences from singing in church and listening to old time radio shows.
The music left an impression on me at a young age. My grandpa and parents took me to my first concert when I was nine years old. It was Ricky Skaggs and the Whites. That magical experience stuck with me, and I’ve been following bands and attending live concerts ever since.
There’s not a better place to watch live music than the Ohio Valley Opry at the Twin City Opera House in Morgan County. Deana and Marvin Clark host this monthly show featuring local, regional and national recording artists. Country, gospel, bluegrass and even a little rock and roll - every performance will have you tapping your foot and singing along.
Join my husband Dan and I as we remodel, cook, host and share an amazing life together in these old historic homes.
