Morgan County is a destination of choice, and it has a growing reputation as a go-to location for outdoor recreation and small town charm. You don’t have to travel far this summer to experience the Front Porch to the Great Outdoors.
No matter what your pleasure when it comes to the outdoors, Morgan County has you covered. There is over 58,000 acres of recreation land to explore - Jesse Owens State Park and Wildlife (formerly known as AEP ReCreation Land), Appalachian Hills Wildlife Area, Burr Oak State Park, and the Wolf Creek Wildlife Area. These lands offer some of the finest hunting, trapping, fishing, and hiking in the state.
Bird watching is also increasingly popular in the area. Many bird species, some rare, are found throughout the unique grassland/brushland landscape. Check out some of the best spots for birdwatching in Morgan County: www.visitmorgancountyohio.weebly.com
Boating season on the Muskingum River is Morgan County’s favorite summertime activity. Life moves a little slower on the river and visitors kick back and relax on the shady riverbanks as well as on the water. Hand operated locks and dams at the Muskingum River Parkway are still navigated today. A favorite pastime of many is locking through down the river while enjoying the southeastern Ohio scenery and wildlife.
There are public docks on both the McConnelsville and Malta sides that boaters can easily tie up too. We will even pick you and your guests up at the docks for your overnight stay at The Inns.
Experience small town charm when you visit one of Morgan County's neighborhoods. Chesterhill is home to Triple Nickel Diner - it is farm to table goodness. After a slice of their famous homemade pie, visit the Chesterhill Produce Auction. It is in full swing every Monday and Thursday at 4pm, and every second Saturday of the month. The Saturday at the CPA Auction features livestock and specialty wood products. While there, stop by the Country Store for handcrafted products like candles, soap, purses, quilts, and rugs, as well as delicious baked goods.
Coming up this June, you won’t want to miss First Friday Flower Market coming to Old Bridge Brewing Company. Pick up a bouquet from a variety of local growers and grab a pint of brewer Dean’s award-winning brews.
