Leaf Peep this Fall in the Foothills of the Appalachian

The weather is beautiful and the scenery is breathtaking, fall is the perfect time to take a backroad trip through Morgan County, Ohio. There are a plethora of things to do, from outdoor adventures to shopping along our picturesque Main Street, these and much more await you here in Morgan County.

5 Wonderful Ways to Spend this Fall in Morgan County

1. The Front Porch to the Great Outdoors

No matter what your pleasure is or what the season is, when it comes to the outdoors, Morgan County has you covered. Here there are over 58,000 acres of land to explore- Jesse Owens State Park and Wildlife (formerly known as AEP ReCreation Land), Burr Oak State Park and Wolf Creek Wildlife Area. These lands offer some of the finest hunting, trapping, fishing, hiking and nature watching in the state.

These areas offer premier fall foliage with all the millions of trees in the area. Typically, the fall season starts at the end of September, with full peak color in mid-end of October, depending upon the weather. During this time it makes for some great hiking at Burr Oak to see nature’s glorious fall colors.

2. The Wilds

A short beautiful 30 minute drive will get you to The Wilds, where you will experience a safari right in our backyard. Today the once strip-mined land has been turned into a beautiful savannah. They have everything from White Rhinos to Giraffes and Zebras, and these are just a few to name. The great work that they are doing to protect these animals is like nowhere else in the world. A true must see when visiting the area. (Please note that The Wilds now requires a reservation.)
