Life's Influences by Innkeeper Amy

Last night as I was scrolling thru my pictures, looking for inspiration, I came across this one of my Grandma Verne and me. She was a significant influence in my life, as are a few other great ladies in my family.

Growing up, I spent a lot of time with my Grandma Verne. She was the family pie baker and noodle maker, but to me, she was also the artist and adventurer in my young lifeā€”all essential things to a young girl.

The mother of seven and the grandmother to many, she taught us all a lot about hospitality. Whether hosting a gathering of friends and family, hiking, fishing, pulling weeds in the garden, or assisting with an art project for school, Grandma Verne ensured that the moment was fun and that lessons were learned.

Yes, you can also thank her for the dessert first protocol we follow at breakfast every morning. One of the many reasons I liked staying with her so often.

She is always with me, not only in my heart but by the ring on my right finger that she left to me, diamonds encased in a white gold flower. Which reminds me everyday that those bits of knowledge she instilled in me as a young girl is what has blossomed me into the woman I am today.

The other prized possessions I have of hers are the wooden spoons we cook with every day. It's fun to think that stirred into everything we cook here at the Inns at 8th and Main are little bits of Grandma Verne's love and guidance.

Stayed tuned to learn about Innkeeper Dan's story.

Till next time, Innkeeper Amy
