Summer on The Muskingum River

Innkeeper, Amy

Hello My Friends!

As you know, we are on the banks of the mighty Muskingum River, and in the summer, that means some water fun. The hand-operated locks and dams still play a role in how the Muskingum River is navigated today. A favorite pastime of many is "locking through" down the river while enjoying the southeastern Ohio scenery and wildlife. It's a great way to spend a day out in nature and appreciate all the beauty that surrounds us.

Dan and I have a two-person kayak that we love to get out on the river. But now, getting that kayak in the water just got easier. On the Malta side of the river, right up from the River Queen, a new wheelchair-accessible kayak ramp was installed and is ready for use. It's great to see such accessibility options for everyone to enjoy the river. So if you're looking for a fun summer activity, grab your kayaks and head on over to the Muskingum River for a great adventure.

If you happen to have a pontoon boat, you'll be pleased to know that you can easily tie off on public docks on both the McConnelsville and Malta sides. This makes it incredibly convenient for boaters to come and go as they, please. Be sure to check out the Muskingum River Parkway Facebook Page or website for lock repairs and closures, as well as lock tender times.

If you're planning on staying overnight at The Inns with your guests, we'll even pick you up! It's just another way we strive to make your stay as enjoyable and stress-free as possible.

Come and enjoy some summer fun with us at the Inns at 8th and Main.

We look forward to hosting you! ~Amy, Innkeeper
