Say that three times fast! My 13 year old informed me recently that the overuse of alliterations is tacky. To him, I say, pipe down Peter Piper! A paralyzing ice storm hit the Mid-Ohio Valley February 3rd - the very day Winter Wellness Weekend was set to begin at the Inns at 8th and Main. This self-care retreat and retail event was the brainchild of our friend Mark Ponchak and his urban lavender farm, Bellavenue Manor. Mark pulled together a variety of wellness and craft vendors and spiritual coaches for this event. Aunt B Creates, Country Road Home and the Curated Closet were on hand with locally-crafted wellness products. Lynn Tisza (Elevating Consciousness) offered up crystal healing sessions as well as a crystal trunk show, and Dee Reed, Guide and Metaphysician conducted craniosacral therapy and deep meditation sessions. But the weather couldn’t be helped, and despite everyone’s best efforts, attendance was not as we had hoped. The wintery weekend left us with a house full of guests who had made it in before the storm, no electricity, and local restaurants and businesses closed. We whipped up three pots of warming nourishment just in time before the lights went out. Our soups along with fresh breads from Meyers Specialty Market kept our visitors satisfied. Thankfully, the fire in the Richardson Library was roaring and we were able to accommodate our guests under the circumstances. Candles and extra blankets came in handy but also created a warm ambiance. Connecting with others in a shared space brought a special, unexpected energy to the Inns. There may have been no electricity, but there was energy. And lots of it.
